Fairfax County Farmers Markets Need Volunteers

Are you a local food enthusiast who enjoys supporting local farmers and producers? Would you like to make a difference in your community by helping to increase access to fresh and healthy foods? Then one of these three volunteer opportunities is for you!

Fairfax County Park Authority operates 10 Farmers Markets across Fairfax County. By providing access to locally grown foods, our farmers market program strives to improve the health of Fairfax County citizens, support local food producers, and protect the environment. Volunteer Market Manager: Serves as the face of their assigned farmers market by completing duties such as managing the day-to-day operations of the market, enforcing market rules, monitoring safety, and assisting with market outreach & vendor selection. Market Managers provide the necessary ground support to ensure markets run smoothly.

SNAP Volunteer. Processes SNAP/EBT transactions at the market, collects SNAP tokens from vendors at the end of the market, records the number of tokens collected from each vendor on an online platform, and helps ensure a successful SNAP Matching program. Volunteers are needed at our Lorton and Mt. Vernon Farmers Markets.

Farmers Market General Volunteer: Assist our Market Managers with opening and closing the market, enforcing market rules, answering questions from customers and vendors, and creating a fun and safe market experience. Market Volunteers help provide on the ground support to ensure markets run smoothly.
