After a one year hiatus, the 2021 Northern Virginia Senior Olympics (NVSO) is back in action!
Volunteers arrived early, getting a quick “just-in time training” from RSVP Volunteer Leader Ken Kozloff.
From there, volunteers kept time, manned tables, and more as participants readied themselves around the track at Thomas Jefferson Community Center in Arlington. After cheering on the participants (the most important part of the volunteers’ duties), volunteers were treated to some pizza as a thank you.
While events like track, diving, cycling, crossword puzzles, and more have already been completed, volunteers are still needed for:
- Swimming: September 24th. 8:00 am-1:00 pm (8 more volunteers) in South Riding
- Horseshoes: Thursday, September 30th, 10:00 am (1 volunteer) in Fairfax
- Bocce: Thursday, September 30th, 12:00 pm (1 volunteer) in Fairfax
Come join the fun by contacting RSVP Volunteer Specialist, Shannon White, at swhite@volunteerfairfax.org.

We would also like to congratulate another AmeriCorps Seniors volunteer, Annmarie Pittman, who was a participant at NVSO. Annmarie won two gold medals: one for the half mile power walk and another for the mile power walk. Way to go Annmarie!

A big shout-out to all the current volunteers at NVSO! You are the backbone to this amazing event! This is possible because of you!
