9/11 VolunteerFest Service Project with RSVP & Cornerstones

September 11th is a day that has been engrained in our lives for reasons we wish it never had. However, the anguish and hardship of this day, has brought forth the National Day of Service and Remembrance.

We at RSVP-Northern Virginia invite you to join us in transforming a day of tragedy into a day of service. 9/11 is a day to honor the first responders and civilians who lost their lives on 9/11 through volunteerism. VolunteerFest, hosted by Volunteer Fairfax, pays tribute to the fallen with a countywide day of service being held on Saturday, September 11, 2021 with a foray of volunteer opportunities and events.

While there are many volunteer opportunities to choose from for VolunteerFest, RSVP-Northern Virginia invites current AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers to join in on a specific fight.

September is Hunger Action Month, a month where people from all over the U.S. fight hunger in their communities. One of the hardest things for organizations fighting food insecurity is greater access to fresh produce. Fresh produce is often out of reach for many populations, including elderly and low-income clients with health concerns.

For this reason, Cornerstones, a non-profit organization focused on providing social services to those in need, is holding a fresh produce collection drive the week prior to 9/11. This fresh produce will be bagged, along with other shelf-stable food items, where it will be distributed to clients on Saturday, September 11th.

Volunteers are needed on September 11th to set up, take down, control traffic, and load food donation bags into the recipient trunks or back seats in a contactless manner. This event will take place outdoors from 12:30-3:00 pm.

This is a limited opportunity, with only 8 spots open. Volunteers must be fully vaccinated, wear masks at all times, and sign a COVID-19 waiver.

If you are interested in joining this Service Project on the National Day of Service and Remembrance, please contact RSVP Volunteer Specialist, Shannon White, at swhite@volunteerfairfax.org or simply sign up below.

We hope you will join us or any of the projects during VolunteerFest to celebrate a day of doing good.
