Cornerstones has been a pillar in the DMV for nearly 50 years. Families living in this region, with its notoriously high cost of living, can struggle to overcome tough economic times. Through services like

  • Summer Excite Reading Buddies and Tutors
    • Remote
    • Participate in a summer enrichment program for youth to help improve reading and other academic skills.
    • Program runs through the first week of August.
    • Background check and interview required.
  • Back to School Drive Assistants
    • August 9th-13th, 16th
    • Shifts: morning or afternoon, 3-hours
    • Help provide 14 local schools with backpacks for kids to start the 2021-22 school year by sorting backpacks.
  • Holiday Sign-up Assistants
    • August 24th-26th, September 8th-10th
    • Shifts: 4:00-7:00 pm
    • Greet and escort clients in a Reston Community to sign up for Thanksgiving and Holiday Gift for Kids Drives.
    • Spanish-speaking volunteer a plus
    • Must wear mask and gloves, and dress for the weather.
  • Operation Stream Shield Crew Assistants
    • Assist and supervise homeless individual participation in the Operation Stream Shield work program, a program designed to improve water quality in streams and provide dignity in work to people experiencing homelessness.
  • Employment Program Assistant and Career Mentor
    • Remote opportunity
    • Assist job seekers and newly hired clients with resume writing, job searches, mock interviews, and mentoring to ensure success in a person’s livelihood.
  • Eviction Prevention Program Assistant and Outreach Event Volunteers
    • Support the Eviction Prevent team and the County’s outreach to tenants and landlords in need of emergency financial support as a result of the pandemic.

  • Housing Search Assistants
    • Remote opportunity
    • Assist Housing Locator in researching affordable housing opportunities.
    • Conduct online research and call local private landlords and complexes to help locate housing option for families or individuals transitioning into affordable units.
