Shepherd’s Centers across the country have one common mission: to provide through volunteer service help to older adults so they can continue to live independently with meaning and purpose in their lives.
Shepherd’s Center-Western Fairfax County (SCWFC) serves Western Fairfax County, including but not limited to Chantilly, Centerville, and Clifton. Through a network of partnerships between faith communities, businesses, local governments, and individuals, SCWFC is able to help older adults and people with disabilities gain access to medical appointments and access food pantries.
Since taking their first client in February 2015, SCWFC has:
- Complete 3380 trips
- Averages 60 trips per month
- Serves on average 30-35 clients per month
- Has a total of 382 registered clients
- Has a team of 23 active volunteer drivers
Volunteers log online to an easy-to-use ride scheduler software, where they can pick and choose from a list of rides requested. From there, the driver will pick up the client from home, bring them to their destination, and bring them back from their destination. The extra perks of volunteering as a transportation driver include enjoying each other’s company, swapping stories, and knowing you are helping those age in place with dignity.
