The following was provided to RSVP by Kathrine Knoble, Manager of Volunteer & Community Engagement at Capital Caring Health. We are proud and honored to share the following:
Mary Beth Cockerham has been a volunteer at Capital Caring Health for nearly two years. Mary Beth embodies what it takes to be a hospice volunteer. Her compassion, ability to care, skill in listening and her can do attitude makes for an excellent hospice volunteer.

Mary Beth is a key member of the Capital Caring Health Tuck In Program. Mary Beth calls patients and their families each week to make sure patients have all supplies they need, get any questions answered and check on their comfort level. Most importantly, Mary Beth “connects” to her patients each week, she establishes a rapport with the patients and the families. Families and patients o look forward to Mary Beth’s friendly calls each week. “I asked Mary Beth how she connects so well to her patients over the phone and she told me that telephone skills are quickly becoming a lost art. She told me that the most important thing she does is to listen.” – Katherine Knoble, Manager of Volunteer & Community Engagement. Mary Beth is a leader of the Capital Caring Health Tuck In Support Team. In her role, she helps new volunteers learn how to become a skilled Tuck In Caller too.
Mary Beth also makes deliveries to patients homes. These deliveries have become extremely important during the pandemic. Mary Beth leaves flowers on the doorsteps of our patients and even deliveries birthday cakes, soup and other items. Capital Caring Health is a non profit who never turns anyone away based on inability to pay. Recently, Mary Beth has been making deliveries to a patient who lives in a homeless shelter.

Our Holiday delivery team sponsored full Thanksgiving meals for patients who needed extra support. Mary Beth was generous to provide this support of a Boston Market meal and also helped to deliver the meals. In the picture, Mary Beth is delivery flowers to one of her weekly tuck in calls, this is the first time they met in person and it was a special moment. Our Elf Squad deliver team is busy delivering Holiday Stockings to our patients and Mary Beth is a key ELF!

Capital Caring Health relies on caring and skilled volunteers such as Mary Beth. It allows us to give the best care possible to each and every patient, and their families.
