Cornerstones has been a pillar in the DMV for nearly 50 years. Families living in this region, with its notoriously high cost of living, can struggle to overcome tough economic times. Through services like

  • Housing
  • Food
  • Financial assistance
  • Child and youth services
  • Community and family strengthening
  • Community resource centers.

During Fiscal Year 2019, Cornerstones served:

  • Almost 16,000 individuals
    • Including 2,576 families
    • 5,373 children

Every year, Cornerstones has been able to reach out to those in need. They rely on volunteers like you to fight food insecurity and provide essential resources to our neighbors. Events

  • Food Distribution: Choose from 4 locations in Reston
    • Saturday, October 31st: 9 am-1 pm
    • Shifts:
      • 9:00-11:00 am
      • 11:00 am-1:00 pm
    • Stock, organize, distribute food boxes to client’s car or front door
    • Volunteers should be able to lift at least 20 lbs
  • Hunter Mill Winter Coat Distribution in Reston
    • Saturday, November 14th
      • Shifts:
        • 8:30-11:30 am
        • 10:45 am-1:15 pm
    • Saturday, December 12th
      • Shifts:
        • 9:30-11:30 am
        • 10:45 am-1:15 pm
    • Help set up, run, and take down this winter coat distribution event
    • Location: North County Government Center/Hunter Mill District Supervisor’s Office, 1801 Cameron Glen Drive, Reston, VA 20190
  • Thanksgiving Food Basket and Gift Cards (for kids) Intake Assistants in Reston
    • Monday, November 16th– Friday, November 20th
    • Shifts
      • 9:00 am-12:00 pm
      • 12:00 pm-3:00 pm
    • Help direct incoming traffic, collect gift cards, unload Thanksgiving food boxes from cars, and stack food boxes in the church’s community hall.
    • Location: in the community hall at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Reston or other satellite locations in Reston. 
  • Thanksgiving Food Drive and Gift (cards) for Kids Distribution Event at multiple locations in Reston
    • Multiple shifts between 8:00 am-3:00 pm
    • Volunteers needed to:
      • Help direct parking lot traffic
      • Deliver food boxes to shut-in residents
      • Help load client vehicles with food boxes
      • Sort leftover boxes of food
      • Set up and break down events
    • Locations around Reston include:
