RSVP-Northern Virginia to hold Art of Volunteering Seminar in Falls Church, Jan. 15

RSVP-Northern Virginia is offering a free seminar titled “The Art of Volunteering in Retirement,”  Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020, at 10:30  a.m., at new Bailey’s Crossroads Community Shelter. The one-hour event is free and open to the public.

RSVP, the region’s largest volunteer network for those 55-years-old or better, provides free personalized support to seniors and retirees who are seeking convenient, social,  fun and meaningful service opportunities in and around Fairfax County, Arlington County and the City of Alexandria. 

The new Bailey’s Crossroads Community Shelter, operated by RSVP partner New Hope Housing, is located at 5914 Seminary Road in Falls Church, VA 22041. Free parking is available.

According to New Hope, “Bailey’s Shelter & Supportive Housing takes an innovative approach to housing Fairfax County’s homeless residents by combining shelter, permanent housing, and supportive services in one building.”

RSVP offers more than 300 meaningful opportunities that include helping seniors age in place, assisting local food pantries, and teaching financial literacy. RSVP also recruits volunteers for various community events including the annual Northern Virginia Senior Olympics.

Several of RSVP’s nonprofit partners offer opportunities in the Bailey’s Crossroads Area including New Hope, the Literacy Council of Northern Virginia and Capital Caring. Representatives from New Hope will be on hand to talk about the new shelter and what volunteer opportunities are available.

RSVP volunteers enjoy flexible schedules, free accident and liability insurance while serving, optional mileage and meal reimbursement and are invited to volunteer group projects and social gatherings.
