RSVP-Northern Virginia to hold Art of Volunteering Seminar in Arlington, Oct. 23

RSVP-Northern Virginia is offering a free seminar titled “The Art of Volunteering in Retirement,”  Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 10:30 a.m., at the Capital Caring Halquist Center in Arlington. The one-hour event is free and open to the public.

RSVP, the region’s largest volunteer network for those 55-years-old or better, provides free personalized support to seniors and retirees who are seeking convenient, social,  fun and meaningful service opportunities in and around Fairfax County, Arlington County and the City of Alexandria.

RSVP offers more than 300 meaningful opportunities that include helping seniors age in place, assisting local veterans, and helping prepare communities for disasters. RSVP also recruits volunteers for various community events including for the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics.

Since 1977, RSVP partner Capital Caring has  improved care for those facing life-limiting illness through direct support of patients and their families, public education and advocacy. The Halquist Center is located at 4715 15th Street, North, Arlington, VA, 22205. Free parking is available. Staff from Capital Caring  will also be on hand to discuss its volunteer needs.

RSVP also recruits volunteers for various community events including for the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics, which has its opening day in Arlington. In addition to Capital Carling, RSVP works with several other nonprofits in the Arlington Area including The Literacy Council of Northern Virginia  and the American Red Cross. 

RSVP volunteers enjoy flexible schedules, free accident and liability insurance while serving, optional mileage and meal reimbursement and are invited to volunteer group projects and social gatherings.
