RSVP-Northern Virginia will hold a seminar on volunteering in retirement, Tuesday, July 16, at 10:30 a.m., at the American Red Cross National Capital Region office in Fairfax. The one-hour event is free and open to the public.

RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program), the region’s largest volunteer network for those 55-years-old and better, provides personalized support to seniors and retirees who are seeking their ideal service opportunities in and around Fairfax County, Arlington County and the City of Alexandria.
The American Red Cross, National Capital Region, one of RSVP’s nonprofit partners, is located at 8550 Arlington Blvd., Fairfax, VA 22031, not far from The Mosaic District in Merrifield. Free parking is available. Volunteers should check in at the front desk on the main floor of the building.
RSVP offers more than 300 meaningful opportunities that include helping seniors age in place, assisting local food pantries, and teaching financial literacy. RSVP also recruits volunteers for various community events including the annual Northern Virginia Senior Olympics. Several of RSVP’s nonprofit partners offer opportunities in the Fairfax- Falls Church area including The Red Cross, New Hope Housing (operator of the Bailey’s Crossroad Shelter), The Literacy Council of Northern Virginia and Food for Others, a food bank in Merrifield.
A representative from The American Red Cross will also speak during the info session about volunteer opportunities available at the Red Cross.
RSVP volunteers enjoy flexible schedules, free accident and liability insurance while serving, optional mileage and meal reimbursement and are also invited to monthly volunteer group service projects and social gatherings.
