RSVP-Northern Virginia would like to welcome The American Red Cross of the National Capital Region as its newest work station partner!
Based in Merrifield, Va., The American Red Cross of the National Capital Region offers a variety of volunteer opportunities to RSVP members including those that support the Red Cross’ disaster response work, its administrative efforts, support members of the armed forces and their families and help teach young people and community groups about disaster preparedness.
Like most nonprofits, The American Red Cross depends on volunteers. Did you know that 90% of the Red Cross work force are volunteers?
For history buffs, The American Red Cross and Northern Virginia have a long and close history. Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross, made St. Mary’s Church in Fairfax Station (which is located just a few miles from the headquarters of RSVP-Northern Virginia) her headquarters for treatment of the wounded in August 1862 during the Civil War.
