Our RSVP-Northern Virginia volunteer photography corps swung into action again on the Martin Luther King Jr., National Day of Service.
Our volunteer photographers (consisting mostly of RSVP volunteers who are members of the photo club at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at George Mason University) did another fantastic job of documenting volunteers making a difference at Volunteer Fairfax’s 10th annual Give Together event in Fairfax and in Arlington at Volunteer Arlington‘s MLK event which included a series of RSVP new volunteer info sessions lead by RSVP volunteer specialist Carly Hubicki and RSVP volunteer engagement leader Ken Kozloff
Special thanks to the four volunteer photographers who provided such great coverage of the day’s activities including Dave Talaber, George Addison and Dan Feighery at Give Together in Fairfax and John Nash who was in Arlington with Carly and Ken.
Below is a slide show of photos taken by our volunteers of Carly and Ken recruiting new volunteers in Arlington and of several hundred volunteers in Fairfax who made their “day off a day on” and accomplished the following :
- Created 600 Valentines for Foster Care to Success
- Assembled 1,500 Power Packs for Food for others and FACETS (Made possible by the Educational and Charitable Foundation)
- Made 175 dog toys for Humane Rescue Alliance
- Painted 360 canvases for CRI
We would also like to thank the OLLI at George Mason Photo club for inviting our own Rob Paine to speak on photography at their latest club meeting in Fairfax.
Speaking of OLLI, registration for the spring session begins Feb. 21. If you are not yet familiar with the OLLI program, please visit https://olli.gmu.edu to learn more. OLLI offers an incredible variety of classes and seminars each session and during the 2019 spring session, RSVP and Fairfax County’s Volunteer Solutions will be holding a seminar titled “The Value and Benefits of Volunteering in Retirement,” 1-2:30pm, April 5. The seminar in April is a great opportunity to learn how to get the most out of volunteering and how you can find your ideal volunteer opportunity.
