This year, courtesy of the new RSVP Northern Virginia Volunteer Photography Corps, which consisted of 17 volunteer photographers from the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at George Mason University, the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics enjoyed unparalleled photo coverage in addition to the great work it regularly receives from RSVP veteran photographer Ron Staley.
RSVP would like to send a very special thank you to Dan Feighery of the OLLI photo club, who not only responded to our initial request for volunteer photographers, but tirelessly organized and scheduled the OLLI photographers at multiple events and venues over three weeks.

Members of the RSVP Volunteer Photography Corps first met with RSVP marketing and outreach specialist (and professional photographer) Rob Paine and RSVP volunteer specialist Carly Hubicki in early July for an orientation and briefing on sports photography and the photography needs of RSVP and of the NVSO. The group met again in August and then in September to prepare for the start of the NVSO.
“All of these volunteers did amazing work,” Rob says. “I think everyone associated with the NVSO is going to be thrilled with these photos.”
“The poor weather in September had a major impact on our schedule this year but these folks were always flexible and tried to fill in at the events on their new dates,” Rob says.
There was only one major event not covered by a photographer and that was after it had been rescheduled several times due to weather and less than ideal field conditions.
Thanks to our volunteer photographers, several events normally not covered included photographers resulting in a much more inclusive photo report.
Rob says he hopes the RSVP Volunteer Photography Corps will continue to be active covering other RSVP, NVSO and Volunteer Fairfax events, including the upcoming VolunteerFest 2018, presented by AT&T and powered by Volunteer Fairfax. VolunteerFest 2018 includes more than 40 community projects taking place Oct. 20-28. Registration is ongoing at http://www.volunteerfest2018.org thru Oct 19th.
